Eind vorig decennium pakte Black Belt Eagle Scout, of ook wel Katherine Paul (of KP), uit met twee ijzersterke platen. Debuut ‘Mother of my children’ en opvolger ‘At the party with my brown friends’ staan vol indie-rocknummers die tegelijk kwetsbaar en krachtig klinken. De teksten zijn gebaseerd op Katherines eigen identiteit en ervaringen als indigenous queer feministe. In februari volgt al een derde album, ‘The land, the water, the sky’, waarvan we nu al een voorsmaakje kregen met twee singles. ‘Don’t give up’ komt voort uit KP's mentale uitdagingen en beschrijft hoe de connectie met het land voor haar helend is. ‘My blood runs through this land’ is dan weer gebaseerd op de connectie met haar thuisland in de Winomish Indian Tribal Community. Black Belt Eagle Scout schrijft intieme, heel erg persoonlijke muziek die zich uit in universele gevoelens.
