Damien Brassart is a musician and saxophonist who practices and performs a host of repertoires based on jazz, various musical styles known as ‘world music’ (West African, Irish, Middle Eastern, Indian), free improvisation as well as interaction with other art forms like dance, theatre, drawing and poetry.
Improvising, creating something in the moment while connected to his own perceptions, outside stimuli and his own inner world is an approach that Damien nurtures in his everyday life. To think freely, the musician improvises much as the philosopher takes a walk.

DOCUMENTI, a 30-45 minute concert made up of various forms of improvisation, will be an opportunity to explore the aesthetics of the relationship between the various paintings of Sébastien Bonin and the acoustic expression of Damien Brassart.
In painting, the colour white is used to paint over and start afresh, allow other elements to come to the fore, rest the eyes. The silence in music is an interlude, resonates, soothes the ears. In this way, the artists take ownership both of the colours and ideas of Art History and of the sounds of the history of Jazz to then tell their own story.
Sébastien Bonin’s works will provide the underlying structure for the improvisation, thus guiding it. The concert will weave ties and connections, suggesting possible paths. Lastly, the listeners will have to find their own way through the sounds created by the improvisation.
How does one listen to a painting in a way that the colour of the sounds resonates?
Damien Brassart will do just that on 17,18 and 19 July at the Botanique Museum.
