To immerse himself in the primeval forest in Brazil, with an open and enquiring eye and no other aim: this was the basic premise of Stephan De Broyer’s first photographic expeditions.

NATIVE FLORA AND FAUNA RAISED SO MANY QUESTIONS, REMINDING HIM OF HOW MUCH HE DID NOT KNOW.

It was only after several journeys between the two continents that the photographer spotted a new significance in his images and encounters. Native flora and fauna raised so many questions, reminding him of how much he did not know. These new perspectives sent him in new directions, less dreamlike, exploring the ecological challenges of the exploitation of the fertile land and its many by-products.

THESE NEW PERSPECTIVES SENT HIM IN NEW DIRECTIONS, LESS DREAMLIKE

Stephan De Broyer is a graduate of the Agnès Varda School of photography. At 25 he founded View Photography Magazine, an editorial platform embracing both documentary and art photography, conflict and intimacy, remaining its editor and artistic director until 2011.
