CURATOR: BARNABE MONS
Held in the Galerie of Le Botanique, the exhibition "KITSCH CATCH the Franco-Belgian golden age" reveals some three hundred documents from Barnabé Mons’ collection. Through photographs, videos, and original posters dating from the 1940s to the 1990s, the exhibition offers a fascinating immersion into the world of Franco-Belgian wrestling.

Our exhibition explores the bizarre world of Franco-Belgian wrestling: masks, sequins, and improbable pseudonyms form the backdrop for a fascinating journey of discovery. Using archive documents from the 1950s to the 1990s (promotional photographs, press documents, reports, posters), the exhibition showcases some of the celebrated and forgotten heroes of a discipline set on the edge between combat sports and theatre, and playfully addresses the themes of good and evil, anonymity and identity, violence and its simulacrum, morality and blasphemy. As a reminder of an era when derision was more acceptable, Franco-Belgian wrestling amazes as much as it entertains.
On the occasion of this exhibition, Le Botanique is pleased to present a new edition of Barnabé Mons and Jimmy Pantera’s book KITSCH CATCH.
A sociologist of the bizarre, pop archivist, rock singer, and exhibition curator, 47-year-old Barnabé Mons lives and works in northern France. He has organised thematic exhibitions on pictorial psychedelia, fan art, deviant embroidery, and Franco-Belgian wrestling. For more information, visit his website confusion.space
