Diffraction refers to the spreading of waves around obstacles. The title of Alexandra Mein’s exhibition Diffraction not only refers to the distortion of our own interpretation of the world around us and the way we experience it but also of the interpretation itself (why do we interpret
it the way we do?).

Some of Alexandra Mein’s works feature reflective surfaces. The image of the visitor is echoed in the various mirrors, generating a delicate moment of bewilderment. In other pieces, human bodies are nothing but a vague memory. All that remains is the essence, both literally and figuratively.
Alexandra Mein's sculptures are characterized by an encounter between organic forms and pure, crystalline structures, with echoes of historical sculptures. They seem to have grown out of a chair or a stool, or to have sprung from a piece of marble. Their distinctive unfinished aspect reinforces the sensation of movement and gives the viewer a greater freedom of interpretation.
