When I finally got to see them live, I was transformed into a hysterical nine-year-old girl at a Beatles concert”
Kurt Cobain

Before words like "riot girrrl" and "girl rock" even existed, Osaka's Shonen Knife was joyously snapping guitar strings to the sound of Ramones covers. Formed in 1981 by the Yamano sisters, this cult Japanese girl trio have endured decades of musical upheaval by sticking to what they do best: sing their unique trademark of contagious feel-good pop-punk. Despite not selling out stadiums, they are acknowledged as having had a significant influence on alt rock bands over the past fourty years, including Sonic Youth and Nirvana. Even after many years on the road, their passion for live performances is still evident as they perform songs from their enormous back catalog, which includes everything from robust thrash rock to hit parade tunes.

BABY FIRE

Laetitia Shériff, Mike Moya (Godspeed You! Black Emperor), G.W.
