BotaniqueMoin are a three piece based in London that comprises of Tom Halstead and Joe Andrews of the band Raime (Blackest Ever Black, RR) and percussionist Valentina Magaletti who operates over a great range of projects such as Vanishing Twin, Tomaga and Lafawandah.
The three have been working together intermittently for over 10 years with Valentina contributing drums to both of Raimes albums ( Quarter Turns Over A Living Line in 2012 and Tooth in 2016) and a debut Moin EP in 2013. Valentina also joined Raime’s live show for the Tooth album which toured extensively. The band navigate a revolving set of influences from obvious touch points such as alt rock, post-punk, art-rock and doom metal to more abstract ideas found in improv and found sound recording.
In addition to these more closely related areas, shades of electronic music are still present providing a constant dialogue between the two practices. The sound is direct but subtly re-assembled.
NIK COLK VOID
Nik Colk Void is an electronic musician and artist with a vast reputation in experimental shapeshifting and collaboration. Void’s interests lie in the unconventional encounters with her tools, both analogue and digital, as a means of expression. Her key instruments are voice, guitar, and modular euro-rack systems engaging in a new language using extended technique and cut-up sampling through synthesis. As a result, the blends of her compositional tracks lean towards techno, club, experimental and noise.
UK based, Void has produced eight acclaimed studio albums with her musical groups Factory Floor (Gabriel Gurnsey & Dominic Butler), Carter Tutti Void (Chris Carter & Cosey Fanni Tutti) and NPVR with the late Peter Rehberg, releasing via Mute, DFA, Blast First, Editions Mego and Industrial.
Her solo debut Bucked Up Space is set for release via Editions Mego on 8 April 2022.
ANNELIES MOSERÉ
Annelies Monseré has been playing music solo since 2000. Initially the music was piano-based and mostly instrumental. Once she ‘discovered’ her voice, vocals became a main focus. The early songs had very simple structures and melodies, and the words were sparse and introvert. Over the years, she experimented with different instruments such as cello, guitar, organ, accordion and drum computer.
Her debut album ‘Helder’ (released by BlueSanct) was described as “a delicate album, complete with beautiful cracks and loads of tape-hiss. […] an intensely intimate album”. On later albums and EP’s (on labels such as Morc, Stroom and ThreeFour), new routes were explored, such as: inviting other musicians to make contributions (including friends such as Jessica Bailiff, Michael Anderson, Ellen Evers, Justin & Nathan Vollmar, Yumi Verplancke and Steve Marreyt); using new instruments, timbres and recording techniques; interpreting traditional ballads; and introducing drum beats. Lyrically also, the records gained more focus. On ‘Happiness is within Sight’, released by the Belgian Stroom label in 2018, she tried to exhibit multiple perspectives on a parting between lovers. The new record ‘Mares’, that will be released by Horn of Plenty, explores personal memories and metaphorical meanings of the sea and how these memories and meanings are distorted or enhanced by future events.
