Hailing from greater Montreal, which has boasted bands like Arcade Fire, The Dears and Wolf Parade, the band pays homage to the city’s historied indie pop movement while amassing a following forged from surprising friendships.

Men I Trust are an indie pop band from Montreal. It all started with Jessy Caron and Dragons Chiriac, two childhood friends, joined by Emma Proulx as a singer. They released their first album in 2014, and have been doing everything themselves ever since: from shooting their own videos to releasing their own records, the band has been working with a DIY approach. Mixing and matching elements of indie pop, soft disco and trip-pop, they make a wonderfully chill and summery sound. 'Oncle jazz' the cheerful trio's third album, on which influences of Mac DeMarco, Clairo and Ariel Pink can be heard, was released in 2019. Not to be missed in the Orangerie on February 16th!

LUWTEN

Under the moniker LuwtenDutch artist Tessa Douwstra records, writes, performs, and produces cunning pop that incites both the head and the heart. In the past Douwstra’s music was an attempt to cast a light on the introverted, embracing comfort in your own solitude and selfhood. Forthcoming second album Draft takes on a different challengehow to be that person with others in the room. The name Draft speaks for itself: these songs evoke the feeling of the breeze underneath the door; a subtle reminder of becoming open to another. To illustrate this notion further, Luwten transmutes different sounds together with quizzical warmth: field recordings and organic noise are laced intricately with electronic sounds and melodic live instrumentation. On Draft, these productions tell as much a story as Luwten’s compassionate vocals and soulful lyricism. The title track, for instance, features voice memos from Douwstra’s inner circle of friend, family and loved ones, all of them synthesized together as one big collective voice surrounding her’s. The embrace and empathy in Luwten’s music lie in the process itself. She’s looking for new ways, without reading the manual first.
