LA BELLE HIP HOP FESTIVAL - BOLD EDITION

 

La Belle Hip Hop est un festival créé en 2017, à l’occasion de la journée des droits de la femme, proposant des projets et ateliers divers tout au long de l’année. Dans une volonté de donner davantage d’espace et de soutien aux femmes dans la culture hip hop, univers majoritairement masculin, La Belle Hip Hop souhaite déconstruire certains stéréotypes en prouvant que les femmes sont toutes aussi talentueuses que les hommes et méritent de bénéficier des mêmes droits et des mêmes places dans le milieu artistique. Le souhait est aussi celui d’encourager les jeunes filles à oser s’exprimer dans ce milieu et avoir plus confiance en elles, à travers cette culture qui est finalement la plus populaire auprès des jeunes générations.

La Belle Hip Hop promeut le talent féminin dans les cultures urbaines à l’échelle internationale, à travers des ateliers d’éducation alternative, des expositions, des battle de danse, des conférences, des programmes de consultance et production artistique, et bien d’autres activités et collaborations, ainsi qu’une campagne de sensibilisation contre toute forme de violence faite aux femmes.

BOLD EDITION

Pour sa huitième année, le Festival La Belle Hip Hop revient pour une édition sous le signe de l’audace et de la puissance des identités multiples . Une édition qui mettra cette fois-ci l’accent sur cette volonté d’œuvrer davantage pour le dialogue interculturel, à la fois participatif et dynamique, tout en mettant à l’honneur non seulement les 50 ans de culture Hip Hop mais aussi les 60 ans d’immigration.

A l’occasion de la Journée internationale de la diversité culturelle pour le dialogue et le développement qui est organisé par l’UNESCO, La Belle Hip Hop programmera 4 jours d’activités qui mettront en avant la richesse des cultures du monde, mais aussi le rôle essentiel du dialogue interculturel pour la paix et le développement durable.

Un projet 100% belge, qui a toujours manifesté sa volonté d’améliorer la mobilité des artistes et des professionnels de la culture, mettant les droits et libertés des femmes en avant, ainsi qu’en programmant des artistes qui sont à l’image même de notre mixité et de notre cohésion sociale, car Bruxelles est reconnue aujourd’hui comme l’une des villes les plus cosmopolites au monde.

Avec des artistes d’ici et d’ailleurs dont Masia One (Singapore), Mona Haydar (Detroit, USA), Nejma Nefertiti (NYC, USA), Khtek (Maroc), Shadia Mansour (UK/Palestine), Cristal (Brésil), Cage (Belgium), DJ 22H30 (Begium).

AMIRAH (US/CHICAGO)

An internationally recognized hip-hop dancer, choreographer, and teacher, Amirah Sackett explores and embodies her Muslim American identity through combining hip-hop movement and Islamic themes. She is widely known for her creation of the choreography and performance group known as, “We’re Muslim, Don’t Panic”, which reached viral video fame after being featured on POPSUGAR Celebrity, The Huffington Post, AJ+, and Upworthy. Sackett was honored to be a TEDx speaker, guest lecturer at Harvard University, and a cultural diplomat with the U.S. State Department in Bangladesh and Malaysia.

Amirah believes her art and identity as both Muslim and American, has the power to build bridges between communities fostering mutual understanding, increased knowledge, awareness, and unity. She uses her voice to fearlessly combat negative stereotypes about Muslim women, and educate communities with little or no contact with their fellow Muslim Americans. She believes hip-hop, as a medium, to be a transformative art form, both for the audience and practitioners.

DJ 22HEURES30 (BE)

« 22heures30 », jeune femme DJ venant tout droit de Bruxelles. Celle-ci apporte sa propre vibe avec de nouveaux morceaux mais aussi des intemporels. Et cela, tout en mélangeant : le Hip-Hop, la Trap et l’Afro. 

Elle a déjà performé dans les endroits les plus réputés de Belgique (Bloody Louis, Birdy, Versuz, Trix, Botanique, etc) mais aussi à l’étranger (Suisse,France, Chypre etc..). Elle a travaillé avec plusieurs artistes et a eu l’occasion de faire les premières parties de concert de Masego et plus encore. »

NEJMA NEFERTITI (US/NYC)

Nejma Nefertiti, a dynamic Hip Hop artist from Brooklyn, NY, blends Iranian, North African, and Indigenous American roots into her versatile artistry. Known for her fierce delivery, multisyllabic rhyming, vivid imagery, and captivating style of wordplay, she has garnered international recognition.

Nejma Nefertiti is an art equals politics, social justice educator, utilizing Hip Hop and technology as cultural weapons of empowerment. Her dedication and self determination is reflected in the content of her lyricism and in her work as an executive producer. 

She has been seen and heard on outlets such as Shade 45’s Rap Is Outta Control, Sway In The Morning, Chuck D’s “AndYouDon’tStop” radio show, and the Rock The Bells platform, and was one of 12 winners of The Saga Continues Contest, organized by Sway Calloway and Rza of Wu-Tang Clan. 

Nejma Nefertiti has graced places like The Kennedy Center, SOB’s, The Nuyorican Poets Cafe, The Knitting Factory, The Blue Note Jazz Club, and The Apache Cafe. She has toured in Venezuela, Iraq, France, and Switzerland, and is one of the most exciting and formidable emcees representing Hip Hop Culture.

KHTEK (MA)

Originaire de la petite ville amazigh de Khemisset, Khtek – « ta sœur » en marocain –, de son vrai nom Houda Abouz, est le nouveau visage du rap féminin marocain. Dans un environnement musical fortement dominé par les hommes, elle est en train de s'imposer comme la patronne du hip-hop de son pays dans le classement 2020 des BBC Women.

Khtek commence à écrire des chansons en 2016 et son rap libre et créatif n’hésite pas à prendre le contre-pied des traditions du Royaume. Ses pairs les plus célébrés lui on fait une place de choix dans leurs titres récents : El Grande Toto, Don Bigg et Draganov pour « Hors Série » ou Tagne et Stormy sur « Fratello » ont, comme ses propres clips « Kick Off », vu plus de deux million de fois sur Youtube, ou « Ftila », affolé les réseaux sociaux. Avec ses tracks au groove soigné et implacable et ses textes poétiques ou sans détours, Khtek affirme son identité amazighe et dénonce les inégalités et les excès d’une société patriarcale trop souvent rétrograde. Elle incarne une nouvelle génération de femmes fortes, libres et engagées.

SHADIA MANSOUR (PS)

SHADIA MANSOUR, also known as “The First Lady of Arabic HipHop” is a Palestinian MC, singer and producer who performs her music in the Arabic language. She entered the musical arena in 2002 on the forefront of public protests in London as a teenager while attending school and college, which brought her to the first public appearance at a London Rally protesting the illegal occupation of Palestine. She states that Arabic hip hop plays an integral role in “Globalising the voice of the struggle” while providing a platform for artists. Shadia has pioneered a whole movement of conscious music that is often politically charged. Her rapping and singing style while performing in a Palestinian Thobe are recognised trademarks of hers. She is best known for her work with Iraqi producer 'Sandhill' on “Alkuffeyeh arabeyeh" (The kuffeyeh is Arab), which highlights the appropriation of arab culture by corporate brands, specifically the black and white ‘kuffeyeh’.

The song was recorded with emmy nominated producer and composer, DJ Johnny Juice of the legendary Hip Hop group ‘Public Enemy’ and features M1 of the hip hop duo 'Dead prez'. Shadia also worked with Sandhill on her  song “Kollon 3ndhom Dababaat” (They have Tanks, we have rocks). She has many musical collaborations, some of which include "Somos sur"(We are the South) with Chilean Rapper Ana Tijoux, and  "Hamdullilah" with Narcy, which was featured in the Fast and Furious 7 Motion picture.

MONA HAYDAR (US/Détroit)

Mona Haydar is a Syrian-American Muslim who spent her early career as a performance poet. In 2105 she and her husband, Sebastian, gained national and international attention for their “Ask A Muslim" project, a public booth that invited dialogue and questions in the wake of the Paris and San Bernardino extremist attacks. 

In 2017 Mona broke into the hip hop music scene with  Hijabi (Wrap My Hijab) whose video- featuring Haydar seven months pregnant with her second son- went viral. Her first EP, Barbarican, dropped in 2018 and took aim at global patriarchy, orientalism, immigration policy, white supremacy, national identity, and suicide. That same year, she earned her Masters Degree in Theology, focusing on Christian Ethics, from Union Theological Seminary in New York City. 

For the last ten years, Mona has been performing her poetry and music, leading writing and activism workshops, and speaking at universities and colleges about art, Islam, feminism, hip hop, theology, and inter-faith dialogue. 

Most recently, Mona and her husband are featured as the hosts of The Great Muslim American Road Trip, a three part docu-series on PBS. Mona and Sebastian serve as hosts on this journey through the American West, encountering fascinating Muslims in unusual places, and undergoing a spiritual journey of their own.

CAGE (BE)

Cage est une MC de hip-hop flamande originaire de Strombeek. Influencée par la scène hip-hop américaine et française des années 1990, elle a aiguisé sa plume et développé son propre style flamand. Cette femme aux racines congolaises offre à ses auditeurs des textes authentiques sur des thèmes de société.

SABRINE (BE)

Chanteuse belgo-marocaine, Sabrine est choriste pour Arno puis elle enchaînera une tournée au Maroc où elle découvre un panel de styles et d’artistes qui lui inspirent un nouveau chemin dans la musique. Elle collabore également avec des artistes de différents milieux, notamment en France aux côtés de figures de renommée internationale. Ses chansons sont une invitation au voyage, à travers des mélodies européennes et orientales.

SIHAM (BE)

Artiste liégeoise, spécialisée dans la danse Krump et contemporaine, Siham puise dans ses origines marocaines/amazighes pour créer un style qui lui est propre. Danseuse professionnelle, interprète, chorégraphe et mannequin, Siham écrit également. La poésie a un grand impact dans son art. Désireuse de développer son identité artistique dans la création en Belgique, elle travaille à présent sur l'écriture d'une pièce.

MASIAONE (SG)

Masia One, also known as the Far East Empress, is an artist that cuts through the drone of life, inspiring people to reconnect with their own sovereignty. 

Born in Singapore and raised in Canada, she broke stereotypes for Asian and female artists in Toronto's vibrant Hiphop scene, and is recognized by Complex Magazine's "10 Women that Changed the Game". She earned her stripes working from L.A. to New York as a song writer and creative consultant, and later moved to Jamaica to work out of Bob Marley’s Tuff Gong Studios. Now this artist is reconnecting with her roots in SE Asia and re-emerging as the #FarEastEmpress. Masia One is an artist, entrepreneur and cultural ambassador. 

 Her music has been featured on Netflix series including Tiny Pretty Things, Snow Piercer, Wu Assassins, Altered Carbon and even used for the title song of Fast & Furious 8. Returning to Asia, her full length release Far East Empress LP is the first album released by a Singaporean female emcee, with singles like “Time Wastin” and “Oh Na Na” making the best of Southeast Asia playlists on Apple Music, Spotify and Soundcloud. 

AYBEN (TR)

Ayben learned from his older brother that Turkish rap music could also be successful at a young age. As a result, She began writing her own lyrics. At the beginning of 2008, she released her first solo album "Sensin O" in collaboration with Doublemoon & Pozitif Music. After this successful album, she gave many concerts at home and abroad. She was invited to Egypt in 2010 and represented Turkey within the scope of the "Hip Hop Connection Connected" project, in cooperation with the Goethe Institute and the Ministry of Culture. She gave concerts in Alexandria and Cairo with musicians from different countries.

Her single "Oha Dersin" was released in 2013. Shortly after, she took part in the play "Urban Sounds Clash Classic" at Berlin's famous Schaubühne Ballhaus Naunynstrasse . Immediately afterwards, she started working on her new album "Başkan", released by Sony Music in 2017. This was followed in 2018 by the famous TV series "Avlu" (Kimsin). “Pisi Pisine” and “Seçin” were released in 2019. And in 2023 she released the album "The gr8 Mixtape subconsciousness", an art project in Berlin. Later, she released her singles "Oyun Parkı", "Yangın", "Zararı Yok". She is currently working on new projects and giving successful concerts.

Nil Görkem (BE)

« Le tournoiement des derviches m'a profondément transformé, équivalent à une transition du moi superficiel au moi profond. L'acceptation que tout est temporaire et que nous sommes des particules en rotation dans cet univers élimine la tristesse », dit Nil Görkem. Les derviches effectuent une rotation constante vers la gauche, suivant une spirale centrifuge d'expansion qui conduit vers une énergie spirituelle. Leur mouvement circulaire s'articule autour de leur cœur, s'inspirant du mouvement planétaire où les planètes tournent autour du soleil, créant ainsi une connexion au rythme cosmique.

Nil Görkem est passionnée par les symboles des danses traditionnelles et a l'intention de les adapter à notre époque et à notre contexte spatial. Pour accomplir cela, elle pourrait explorer différentes façons d'interpréter les symboles traditionnels à la lumière des préoccupations actuelles et des réalités sociales.

Son horizon artistique s’élargit en Belgique avec des cours de danse et de percussion dans divers styles: elle apprend le boleadoras auprès de Patricia Van Cauwenberge et le flamenco avec Coral Vados, le Kalbelia avec Carolina Fonseca, la danse soufie avec Ziya Azazi et les techniques de danse contemporaine auprès de Ines Cera, Amanda Couturier et Hans-Joachim David, avant d’obtenir son certificat en danse contemporaine à l’école Art-T. 

Elle en explore les formes traditionnelles qu’elle réinterprète dans une modernité très personnelle. Elle dispense divers cours de danse en 2012 et 2013 notamment au centre culturel de Schaerbeek. En 2013, elle initie le projet Thrace d’Exil qui présente l’exil et les migrations des diverses populations issues de Turquie au travers de leurs danses, musiques et poésie.  Thrace d’Exil explore avec un regard critique et avant-gardiste les traditions populaires des minorités d’Anatolie.

TONER (BE)

Anne-Gabrielle Lia-Aragnouet, alias Toner2, est violoncelliste et graffeuse adepte du wildstyle. Formée en France puis au Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel, elle fait partie du Quatuor Amôn, et se produit sur les scènes internationales. Elle transmet sa passion à l’académie de Molenbeek et via le projet El Sistema Belgique.
