For his first ever performance, singer-songwriter Joesef managed to sell out Glasgow’s King Tut before even releasing a single song. At least now we have “Play Me Something Nice’, the Glaswegian’s debut EP. On it, Joesef uses his soulful voice to tell us stories about his (real-life) relationship gone bad. The lyrics are melancholy, without ever becoming melodramatic, while laidback Motown grooves, hiphop beats and jazz guitar set a chilled out backdrop. “I need you here, with me”, the early twentysomething croons on the EP’s title track. So don’t leave him wanting when he visits the Witloof Bar.
