ÂA, Âtlaï Okapi Abdallah, is much more than just a performer. ÂA embodies the essence of eclecticism and artistic coherence, refusing to bend to established norms. His music is an alchemy of genres ranging from Congolese rumba and 2-step to alternative R&B and pop sung in French and Lingala.
Christian Clerebaut began his musical career accompanying some of his rapper friends, and immediately stood out with his powerful, expressive voice and outstanding stage performance. His poignant song Ultraviolet, which he calls his signature track, opened the door to a record label contract.
He began 2024 by developing a loyal community on social networks, sharing his love of poetry, art and literature. In April, he gave us the luminous title NOM-DU-PÈRE, a rousing gospel in Lingala and French heralding a new EP with the same theological references: AU NOM DU FILS. On these ten tracks, the artist's touch is unmistakable, and from the first notes, from the very first verse, we recognise the muted violence wrapped in satiny softness that is ÂA's signature. In the form of an unhinged matryoshka, snippets of secrets reveal ÂA's porous identity, and perhaps a little of ourselves at the same time. In the fiercest of intimacies, ÂA finds the Universal.
LOUISE BARREAU
