Abel Ghekiere is a Belgian multi instrumentalist with a sound that comes from merging minimalist jazz, traditional folk and field recordings. His debut album – Voor het verdwijnt,en daarna - was lauded as a new sound, heavy but comforting. In his new music, he plays with more openness, gentleness and euphoria. The inspiration for his intuitive, stripped-down form of songwriting comes from the likes of Nils Økland, Sufjan Stevens and Caroline. Abel is a guitarist by training but takes clarinet and banjo with him in the studio and on stage. His new album, ‘In de verte, dit uitzicht’ will be released on vinyl with Rotkat records in February 2025. Live, he plays accompanied by Tobias Vockaert (sax), Orlan Ghekiere (drums) and Hendrike Scharmann (violin).
